Pure grit + avid determination.

About

My philosophies on life in general come from a place of pure grit and avid determination to do better, be better. Every. Single. Day. I love tinkering through solutions to random challenges, whether it’s for a client or something in my own life.

In my work, the idea that all things are connected keeps me guided, and my experience in design, leadership, and life create a strong foundation for success on each project.

Solutions-Oriented Thinking

When I was managing teams, other leaders and designers, I’d often have a phrase when they were encountering issues and wanted to bring them to me…

Be prepared to bring a solution with your issue, otherwise it’s just a complaint.

This comes from a place that not everything is or will ever be perfect. Even the brightest of solutions can be improved upon days, weeks, or even months later, ultinately, because the world around us changing. If we want to survive, we’ll need to adapt.

Reframing the way we think about “issues” (which I positively now call “challenges”) can help when troubleshooting and navigating situations.

Changing our mindset from a negative barrier to a positive potential is the first hurdle to problem-solving. When we embrace this and couple it with the readiness to hit a challenge head-on, our possibilities really are endless.

Leadership

Over the past 10 years as a design and leadership professional, I’ve infinitely grown my soft skills and honed my managerial aptitude. The advancements I’ve made— as a person, peer, and professional —have allowed me to successfully build inspired, cohesive teams and effective programs that have made positive change in their life and within their organization.

My favorite inspiring quote from Sheryl Sandberg:

“Leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence, and making sure that impact lasts in your absence.”

Professional Competencies

  • Right out of college I started at an agency as a website designer. That quickly blossomed into so much more, but design will always be my true foundation, my first love.

Creating inclusive designs that are human-first, accessible, and meaningful is important to me. Catering to the diverse user base of our society is the true test of good design that has lasting success.

I have experience designing brand systems as a visual language to help communicate their services and products. Helping define an identity and forge a brand experience that both informs and delights their customers is at the core of my work.

I offer custom design services for a wide-range of content:

    • internal/external brand assets and materials in digital and print form

    • website design and development

    • advertising and marketing campaigns

    • social content

    • partner materials

    • events and branded merch

    • and so much more

I am highly proficient in all design principles, including unity, balance, hierarchy, contrast, emphasis, alignment, white space, and more. My technical skillset includes extremely high attention to detail in typography, layout design, and color theory.

  • I’ve spent years building small design teams into a full-fledged creative department that functions as a united group. My passion for inspiring others to learn and grow invigorates individuals and teams alike. In turn, my drive for seeking out the big-picture and bridging people together to achieve goals as a unit drives success for any organization.

  • I enjoy a real good brainstorming session, but the result of actively listening to others’ ideas and creating a safe space for them to do it in is foundational to successful collaboration.

The way I approach problem-solving is to, well … get uncomfortable.

Thanks to a very close friend and former colleague who once gave a workshop talk on “Changing The Way We Think About Feedback”, I began to reframe the way I approached collaboration altogether. (Thanks, B!)

Negative feedback (which I call constructive feedback) can be good! Disagreement can be a way to collectively work towards a solution together. Yes, the pessimists can deter progress or even turn positive energy into negative. But, embracing the opportunities to have uncomfortable conversations and give and receive honest, direct feedback will contribute to making a project successful.

  • I believe in allowing everyone to be their best self so that they can bring their best self to their work. Embracing diverse ideas, perspectives, and experiences contributes to more successful projects because a united team is always stronger together.

  • As an advocate for setting goals to reach the big-picture, I enjoy planning and developing for the long-term. Big ideas, intentional research, and thoughtful planning are at the core of my personality and work ethic.

  • I’m a sucker for the planning stages of any project, whether small or large, straightforward or complex. I truly enjoy the deep thought that goes into outlining the process of a program, blissfully seeing the full order of operations come to life before the work even begins. Managing a project through to its final state is one of the most rewarding experiences.

In all of my projects, something that is important to me— and in reality a lot of fun, too— is holding a Post-Project Retrospective with all of the project stakeholders. In hindsight, having an honest and inclusive discussion about the project’s challenges, wish-we-could-haves, and celebrating the wins together is an essential step in any project because it allows us to move towards to continued growth.

  • Every organization or project needs effective change management to be successful. I’ve seen too many new processes or roll-outs fail due to the lack of attention and planning for the communication of change management, which leaves teams frustrated and confused. From communication standards to SOPs, investing the necessary time and resources to execute all that comes with changes in the organization is essential for success.
