Leadership
Over the past 10 years as a design and leadership professional, I’ve infinitely grown my soft skills and honed my managerial aptitude. The advancements I’ve made— as a person, peer, and professional —have allowed me to successfully build inspired, cohesive teams and effective programs that have made positive change in their life and within their organization.
“Leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence, and making sure that impact lasts in your absence.”
My favorite inspiring quote from Sheryl Sandberg
Leadership Competencies
-
I’ve spent years building small design teams into a full-fledged creative department that functions as a united group. My passion for inspiring others to learn and grow invigorates individuals and teams alike. In turn, my experience with seeking out the big-picture and bridging people together to achieve those goals together can drive success for any organization.

Of course, I enjoy the typical brainstorming session, communication run-down, actively listening to others ideas and suggestions, and even reviewing work and designs to give honest, direct feedback.
But the way I approach problem-solving is to… get uncomfortable.
Thanks to a very close friend and former colleague who once gave our department a workshop talk on “Changing The Way We Think About Feedback”, I began to reframe the way I approached collaboration and problem-solving.
Negative feedback (which I now call constructive feedback) can be good! If you create a safe space, disagreement can be a way to collectively work towards a solution together. Yes, the pessimists can deter progress or even turn positive energy into negative. But embracing the necessary and dedicated work through that phase towards the end goal is essential to effective collaboration.

As an advocate for setting goals to reach the big-picture, I enjoy planning and developing for the long-term. Big ideas, intentional research, and thoughtful planning are at the core of my personality and work ethic.
-
I’m a sucker for the planning stages of any project, whether small or large, straightforward or complex. I truly enjoy the deep thought that goes into outlining the process of a program, blissfully seeing the full order of operations before the work even begins. Managing a project through to its final state is extremely rewarding, like a four-course meal ready to be shared and devoured.

Every organization or project needs effective change management to be successful. I’ve seen too many new processes or roll-outs fail due to the lack of attention and planning for the communication of change management, which leaves teams frustrated and confused. From communication standards to SOPs, investing the necessary time and resources to execute all that comes with changes in the organization is essential for success.

As a visionary leader and advocate, my work is enhanced by yearning for the “big-picture” and my ability to connect the dots.
Shelley is the quintessential creative leader with knack for managing a diverse set of teams. Her experience managing teams across multiple disciplines gives her keen insights needed to address challenges that arise and keep her at the forefront of industry trends and changes.
Shelley truly shines in process development and project management, not just within her own department, but across the entire company.
She easily navigates the challenges of getting buy-in and outlines processes in a way that is commendable. She judiciously considers the subtleties and diverse perspectives that can be impacted by a change, ensuring that proposed adjustments are compliant and beneficial for all parties involved.
To make an excellent project manager, you have to have emotional intelligence, problem solving skills, be flexible, and a level of risk management tolerance—
Shelley not only crushes it in these areas, but she also actively listens to stakeholders to ensure everyone's voice is heard.
She wraps all of this up with excellent verbal and written communication, as well as thorough documentation that leaves everyone impressed and looking to adopt her methodologies for their own benefit.
Shelley not only sets high standards, but she also generously shares resources and training guides for the benefit of others. She personally trains individuals or connects them with the appropriate resources to ensure the best outcome.
- Youssef E, VP of Paid Search (former colleague)
Shelley is one of the best leaders I've worked with. She consistently took time to connect with leaders and departments across our company to work to break down silos and increase communication and collaboration. One of the most organized people I know, she tackles large projects with ease by taking a step back and breaking it into to smaller, manageable tasks.
She also has the ability to find connections between things that others don't recognize, and works to find solutions.
Shelley has the ability to quickly bond with everyone she works with, people instantly respect her because they know she will advocate for them and it's easy to see her passion and drive for creative.
Any company would be lucky to have such a strong creative leader.
